I got my nose pierced for the first time on my 30th birthday at a random tattoo shop in the Village after several margaritas and dinner at a tiny Mexican restaurant. It was my favorite type of night — spontaneous, care-free, and pre-covid.

I’ll save you from a long, drawn-out explanation of my nose ring experience and skip to the fateful day that it fell out. I was in the shower, it slipped and landed 1.5 inches away from the drain. A small wave of panic washed over me because the world was currently falling apart and now my nose ring was in jeopardy. I managed to save it but it was on that day that I realized I didn’t have what it took to push it back through my nostril.

Heavy sigh.

I waited months later to get it redone and after 3 weeks it fell out again & closed within two days. It was then that I learned not everything is for everyone and I really don’t have what it takes.

After being cooped up for a year and committing to looking the way I want whether people can see me or not, I decided to re-visit my nose ring journey without all the pain and risk.
