Refresh Your Fall Beauty Routine With Sephora’s ‘Black-Owned Beauty Set’
We all love a good beauty box, filled to the brim with an array of goodies just waiting to be used until the last sample-sized drop. So, imagine our pure joy when Sephora debuted their Black-Owned Beauty Box as a part of their best-selling ‘Favorites’ series.
Featuring some of the must-have products we haven’t been able to try yet (looking at you Bread Beauty) we legit can’t wait to get our hands on it.
What’s even better than Black-owned beauty at your fingertips? Beauty that gives back, of course. Sephora was the first retailer to commit to dedicating at least 15% of their shelf space to Black brands in partnership with The 15% Pledge, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit advocacy organization urging major retailers to commit 15 percent of their purchasing power to Black-owned businesses. Now, they’ve promised to donate $20 of each purchase back to The 15% Pledge to keep their efforts going.
“We recognize the importance of supporting our BIPOC founders and have done a lot of work across our entire organization to ensure brands have the support they need to succeed at Sephora,” Priya Venkatesh, SVP of Merchandising, Skincare and Hair at Sephora, told The New York Post. “Providing opportunities for BIPOC brands is long overdue and we take our responsibility in this work and the time it takes to successfully launch a brand seriously.”

The new discovery box comes on the heels of the beauty retailer’s ‘Black Beauty is Beauty’ campaign — a gorgeous short film and tribute to the contributions of Black beauty.
If you’re a Black person in America (or anywhere in the world really), you know all too well what it’s like to have your customs shunned, later adopted, and then widely praised. We’ve seen it time and time again, which is why the campaign and it’s clear messaging on where popular beauty trends come from is so important.
